(AUBURN) - Jurors in an Auburn attempted murder trial heard testimony this week about gunfire, physical evidence, and an alleged jailhouse confession. According to The Star newspaper, witnesses testified they heard shots fired near Baxter and 9th streets in November of 2022 and saw vehicles speeding away from an alley. Prosecutors allege Joseph Fisher of Fort Wayne fired multiple shots at another man from a vehicle during a confrontation. Police testified they stopped Fisher nearby, found methamphetamine on him, and later recovered a handgun hidden in bushes near the scene. Officers also presented evidence of bullet damage to the victim's vehicle, including a shattered rear window and a bullet hole in a door. Additional shell casings and a fired bullet were later recovered. Jurors also heard from a jailhouse witness who claimed Fisher admitted to the shooting. Defense attorneys challenged that testimony, noting the witness later received a plea deal. A firearms examiner testified that several shell casings were fired from the recovered gun. No defense witnesses were called, and closing arguments were set to begin, with the case then heading to the jury for deliberations.
