(PLEASANT LAKE) - A major investment is coming to Camp Chief Little Turtle in Pleasant Lake after the camp received a one-million-dollar grant to fund new improvements.
The grant was awarded to the Anthony Wayne Area Council of Scouting America, which operates the camp at the Anthony Wayne Scout Reservation in Steuben County. The funding is part of the Lilly Endowment's Capital Projects for Residential Youth Camps initiative, aimed at improving youth camp experiences across the state.
Camp leaders say the money will be used for several upgrades, including a new fifty-foot climbing tower, a high ropes course, dining hall renovations, and other infrastructure improvements.
Camp officials say it's one of the largest single gifts in the camp's nearly sixty-year history and will expand opportunities for adventure, teamwork, and leadership development for young people.
Camp Chief Little Turtle is one of sixty-nine organizations statewide to receive funding during the second phase of the Lilly Endowment initiative. Other northeast Indiana camps receiving grants include Camp Potawotami and Camp Lutherhaven.
