LAGRANGE, IN - Some area students had a special visitor during a virtual class meeting this week.

On Tuesday 8th graders at Prairie Heights Middle School had the opportunity to talk with Indiana First Lady Janet Holcomb via Zoom. First Lady Holcomb shared with the students her day to activities, and how much of that has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the virtual meeting, Prairie Heights 8th graders Ashley Young and Josie Hinkle shared with the First Lady about some of the things they have missed since school has been shut down, and how different life is learning remotely. Like many teens, the students had questions about whether things like summer 4-H fairs and athletic events that are set to happen in the months to come would indeed actually happen.

First Lady Holcomb asked the students about their 60 plus acre school farm, as well as other highlights about the Prairie Heights School Community. She was even given an invitation to the school’s annual Heritage Festival in the fall where Prairie Heights 8th grader Noah Butler assured the First Lady he could make sure she got some homemade apple butter and ribbon fries made by the football team.

First Lady Holcomb has met virtually with teachers and students across the Hoosier state over the past several weeks. She says she is “blown away by the passion each educator has for the kids in their class”.

Her meeting Tuesday with 8th graders at Prairie Heights marked the district’s fourth week of remote learning.
