On Thursday Night just after 7:30 pm, Steuben County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the area of US 20 near West Otter Lake Lane 101 in rural Jackson Township for a report of a roll-over crash involving a semi-tractor/trailer.
Initial crash scene investigation indicated that the driver, 25 year old Oleksandr Burdeinyi of Norridge, IL was traveling west on US 20 just east of West Otter Lake in a white 2007 Volvo semi-tractor with box trailer hauling spaghetti sauce. Burdeinyi failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway due to unsafe speed for the roadway condition and traveled off the north side of the road way striking the guardrail. It appeared that Burdeinuyi then over corrected back to the south going around the curve. The tractor/trailer then rolled over on to its side and continued along the guardrail for some distance before coming to rest on its side.
The driver was not injured and US 20 had to be shut down for approximately 2 and half hours while the crash scene was cleaned and the roadway cleared. Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Orland Fire Department, and the Indiana Department of Transportation. Roadways were wet but weather was clear at the time of crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor and seatbelts were in use and effective in the crash that remains under investigation.
