INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana State School Music Association has reportedly canceled the fall marching band season.

According to the Indianapolis Star, ISSMA alerted schools on Wednesday that they would be canceling the organization’s competition season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

ISSMA is expected to release more information Friday.

Area schools such as Angola, Dekalb, East Noble, and Garrett have had a strong presence in recent years during the ISSMA fall marching band circuit of contest. The Angola Marching Hornets, under the direction of Andrew Keiser, started work on their fall program Monday night at Angola High School. Mr. Keiser remarked on a facebook post how proud he was of the students and “their perseverance”.

Because ISSMA events are canceled, individual schools and districts like Angola will decide on their own whether they will hold any school-hosted contests. Angola has hosted a competition for a number of years, which brings in bands from all over the Hoosier state.
The coronavirus pandemic has already canceled marching band competitions in several other states, including Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Colorado and Virginia.
