FREMONT, IN - An area school took some precautionary measures to keep students and staff contained inside their buildings and classrooms due to a brief issue in the area around the school.
Thursday afternoon Fremont Community Schools was informed of a possible suicidal person in the area that law enforcement could not locate. With Fremont Police Department recommendation, the Fremont school district went on a precautionary code yellow at approximately 1:25 PM. The code yellow was lifted at 1:55 PM.
There was not any immediate danger to staff and students. The measure was simply taken to continue to keep students and staff safe, but also keep them out of the way of law enforcement looking for the individual.
In a separate incident, shortly after, several area residents in nearby Angola were concerned about emergency vehicles at Carlin Park Elementary School. That incident was reportedly due to a medical issue, which was quickly resolved.
Parents and community members are reminded that when a school takes any type of security measure or an issue arises, that school officials and emergency personal need to be given time to ensure safety to students, staff, and other involved. Calling the school or showing up demanded answers to find out what is going on can sometimes hinder the process of keep everyone safe. Parents and community members will be contacted once school safety measures are in place and the situation has been neutralized or ended.
