DEKALB COUNTY, IN – A Marion man was taken into custody following a crash that killed an Indiana State trooper Friday afternoon.

The suspect driver involved in this incident, Terry Dewaine Sands II, age 42 of Marion, Indiana, was taken into custody and has been incarcerated in the DeKalb County Jail on a preliminary charge of Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Death to a Law Enforcement Officer, a Level 2 Felony.

Sands is accused of hitting and killing Master Trooper James R. Bailey of Auburn while fleeing from officers on I-69 near Auburn on Friday.

Master Trooper Bailey was attempting to de-escalate the Chase with stop sticks when Sands allegedly hit him.
