(AUBURN) – Charges have been filed against an Auburn man injured in an officer involved shooting incident.
In a media release, DeKalb County Prosecutor Neal Blythe says 44 year old Kyle Leins of Auburn, is charged with two counts of attempted murder; burglary; criminal recklessness; intimidation, three counts of unlawful carrying of a handgun; and resisting law enforcement.
At 6:30 PM on June 1, a call came into DeKalb County Dispatch of a man, later identified as Leins, who entered a residence in the 300 block of West 11th Street in Auburn and pointed a gun at another person. Auburn Police responded to the location, and found out Leins fled the area.
Auburn Police located Leins a short time later near the residence. He was armed and an exchange of gun fire ensued. Leins was shot and injured. First responders were called to the scene and transported him to a local hospital.
Auburn Police Officer Noah Woolweever was placed on a three day administrative leave, which is normal procedure in an officer involved shooting incident.
Blythe says their investigation determined that Woolweever was legally justified in his use of force, and has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
