A Kendallville man, missing since mid-February was found dead near where he was last seen. John W. Slone Jr., age 42, was reported missing on February 14 by his mother.
Reports from the Noble County Sheriff's Department say that Slone's mother, Linda Slone, said her son had not been heard from since February 7. Investigators say he was last seen on February 6 on Mapes Road by a relative.
On Thursday of last week, Noble County authorities received a report of a possible deceased person in a swampy area near the residence Slone was last seen at.
The body was found and later identified as Mr. Slone. The area had been previously searched by investigators, but was covered in ice and snow when it had been originally searched by investigators.
The case is still under investigation, pending autopsy reports.
Authorities believe there was no foul play involved.
Visitation for John Slone will be held Monday, March 18, 2019 after 3:00 PM at Harbor of Love Baptist Church, Kendallville with a service at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Harbor of Love. Burial will follow at Brushy Chapel Cemetery in LaGrange County.
