PLEASANT LAKE, IN - Authorities are investigating a weekend accident where the driver of a pick-up truck was ejected, and airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital.
On Sunday, officers with the Indiana State were called just after 5 p.m. to investigate a reported vehicle crash on County Road 500 West north of County 400 South, just north of Hudson. Upon arrival ISP investigators observed a single pickup truck rolled over on the east side of the roadway, with extensive damage. Reports indicate an adult male was laying in the grass next to the pickup truck.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, identified as Mitchell A. Musser, age 24, of Hudson, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on 500 West. For an unknown reason, he drove off the roadway twice prior to losing control. After leaving the roadway the second time, the pickup truck went airborne, and then rolled, making impact with an embankment. Musser was ejected in the process.
Investigators concluded that Musser was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Excessive speed is suspected to be a primary factor in this crash; however, the investigation is ongoing.
Musser was airlifted from the scene by Parkview Samaritan helicopter and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. His condition is unknown at this time.
Assisting the ISP on scene was the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, DNR, Ashley/Hudson Fire Departments, Steuben County EMS, Ashley Police Department, Parkview Samaritan, and Bill's Professional Towing Service.
