ISP Release Suspect’s Name In Officer Involved Shooting Incident

(AUBURN) – The Indiana State Police have released the names of the individuals involved in an officer involved shooting.

The person shot in Sunday’s incident is 44 year old Kyle Leins of Auburn. The Auburn Police Officer is Noah Woolweever.

The preliminary investigation by ISP Detectives revealed at 6:30 PM Sunday, a call came into DeKalb County Dispatch of a man, identified as Leins, entering a residence in the 300 block of West 11th Street in Auburn, and pointed a gun at another person. Auburn Police responded to the location, and found out Leins fled the area.

Auburn Police located Leins a short time later near the residence. He was armed and an exchange of gun fire ensued. Leins was shot and injured. First responders were called to the scene and transported him to a local hospital.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Woolweever is on administrative leave for three days, as is Auburn Police Department policy.

The investigation is ongoing. Once it is concluded, all information will be turned over to the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
