(CLAY TOWNSHIP) – We need to make a correction on a story we aired earlier regarding a fatal multi-vehicle accident.

We originally reported that 46 year old Ronald Warren of Knox was injured in the crash. However, Indiana State Police says the man was not Warren, but instead it was 48 year old George Bush of Nappanee.
Indiana State Police were called to a crash at U.S. 20 near County Road 350 West in LaGrange County’s Clay Township at 2:45 PM Wednesday.

Troopers say construction work had traffic slowed down to a stop. They determined that 41 year old Crystal Williams of Mishawaka was stopped on U.S. 20 facing west. A motorcycle, driven by 67 year old David Zinkie of LaGrange was stopped behind Williams, and an SUV, operated by 35 year old Melinda Smith of LaGrange, was stopped behind Zinkie.

While the vehicles were stopped, a semi driven by 42 year old Charles Allen of Wawaka was heading west on U.S. 20 and did not stop for the traffic. He hit the Smith vehicle, pushing it into Zinkie’s motorcycle. Smith’s auto then went into oncoming traffic, hitting a pick up driven by Bush.

Zinkie was seriously injured and flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Smith and Bush were injured and taken to local hospitals where they were treated and released.

Troopers were assisted by the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, the LaGrange and Topeka Police Departments, the LaGrange Fire Department, Parkview EMS and Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation.
